  • Hello from Evilpotnoodle.
    K khawar ahmed

For those that know me from my Discord (evilpotnoodle.) or (qwertypad_ish on reddit) or Khawar Ahmed I am happy to be here as part of the Community. I have been an admin of MechaboardsBD since its inception and more than that I have been keeb enthusiast since a while now. Past boards are not very relevant I had a some steelseries and logitech boards but I really got into modding boards in 2019 and a weird desk setup because I didn't have space or time back then.

The custom scene was limited to very few and with not a lot of platforms to share your experiences it was difficult to meet people who were interested in the custom scene.

The fascination with RGB was all I knew
    002a2221-ff20-4437-8372-5903350d0616-image.png
As you can see most of my experience was with full size boards. I then came across a Kickstarter by durgod about a retro keyboard called the Durgod Fusion and I just loved the way it looked. Not knowing much about customs and without any to discuss it with I ended up ordering it (paying nearly the same amount in tax).

My first small form factor board other than the regular TKLs that were quite popular. And that is where this hobby really kicked off for me as I quickly got myself a RK71, a SK61 and a Ducky Mini.
All of which I took apart and desoldered to mod them, I got obsessed with the keeb history and modding videos.

Got myself some switches and at that time NK blueberries sounded nice and so I soldered them onto the Durgod board, which came with Cherry Blues Originally.
    16badf57-3560-41ec-874e-7754af3ca18a-image.png

Pretty soon I got into taking them apart and painting them too trying to match themes with whatever keycaps I could manage to import or buy at the time.

    f3937ce4-060a-462c-8b7d-f6e9018bf15d-image.png

The only keycaps you could get back then were these Shine through PBT ones... terrible but that was what you could get as far as keycaps were concerned. No lube or switches or modding parts.

But slowly and surely I met a lot of like-minded people within the hobby and started learning even more. Soon after that my dive into the custom scene started ever so slowly with a lack of ways to import I could only just browse geekhack and youtube channels. There were not a lot of importers or reliable ways to import parts like all of you have now. A big part of solving these issues was through the community as we got together to place larger orders so that importers and shops would start taking us seriously.

But I was very interested in modding so even managed to import some through hole kits which were just amazing to solder and build.

I was even into switch collecting and haven't counted or organised myself but its quite a decent collection of switches majority being tactile switches. Most of everyone who know me know very well that I am a tactile user except for the gaming builds that I have.

Fast forward to now, I think I have been lucky enough to be a part of a wonderful community and a hobby that really is driven by passion more than anything else. I've just dumped some pictures from my drive feel free to see them as they are part of my journey into the hobby.

  • Haven 103 Reveal IC (GB August to September)
    K khawar ahmed

Introducing the HAVEN 103: A Blend of Architectural Elegance and Keyboard Design
    b12d0e7f-8c4e-41b6-9834-64dff0780ded-image.png
The HAVEN 103 continues the HAVEN series' tradition of incorporating architectural design elements, emphasizing sleek, waistline contours, a sense of suspension, and the separation of materials in terms of volume and shape. This design approach allows the keyboard's exterior to dynamically change its appearance under different lighting conditions.

The primary design technique of the Haven 103 involves cutting a rectangular or square exterior to create multiple triangular and quadrilateral surfaces, much like a building. This method allows the keyboard casing to exhibit varied forms based on the interplay of light and shadow. The logo itself was born from this technique.

    e685fedb-df7f-4a13-a489-09c301d2b14b-image.png

    Front Design Options:

    Option One: (description pending)
    ed83db25-439c-4fc0-9b46-98b6561a42ed-image.png
    5ab0b50b-acdc-4ead-803a-8c3c011af01c-image.png

    Option Two: (description pending)
    188dc8c0-9372-4fb0-9eb4-7b326757e06d-image.png
    418172e7-cb09-4e9f-90dc-9b5aaf1c34e0-image.png

Before the group buy, we will choose between these two options (or potentially introduce an even better design).

    Structure and Features:
The HAVEN 103 shares a similar overall structure with the HAVEN TKL, featuring dual aluminum base plates, a sandwiched weight, and a full-length bottom weight design. It also includes optimizations in the internal structure, utilizing a plate spring and Gasket rubber nail construction.

The keyboard is expected to weigh around 4KG when assembled, thanks to dual copper weights. The plate offers numerous rubber nail positioning points, allowing users to adjust the feel to their preference without needing to install all the rubber nails as illustrated.
    78e6c803-723f-477e-9a0b-c29836c9e318-image.png
This model introduces a split internal design with separate main and function areas, using split positioning plates and PCBs to control the main internal structure within a 60cm range, optimizing typing feel and preventing the length of the positioning plate from affecting the feel in the main key area.
    90063e29-d7f6-47c2-8799-80221493e14d-image.png

    Technical Innovations:
The keyboard will incorporate a welding and hot-swap compatible positioning plate with a 1.6mm black core PCB. If long-term testing proves successful, this design will be used; otherwise, it will revert to a standard hot-swap mount.

The front height continues the design of the HAVEN 60 at 16.7mm, with an EKH of 20.9mm and a typing angle of 8.5 degrees. The HAVEN series does not pursue an ultra-low front height to ensure a uniform 2mm thickness of the aluminum bottom case, reducing potential vibration from echoes.
    33c095e9-bebc-42d5-9562-e7afd00c81a4-image.png

    Pricing and Availability:
This iteration simplifies some aspects of the design language and CNC machining compared to the HAVEN 80, with prices expected to start from 2300 to around 3000. There might also be a simplified version priced around 1698, still equipped with a 1.8KG long copper weight. Regardless of the version, an in-stock sales model may be adopted (for more details, please join our group and pay attention to the IC: Chapter Two and GB post scheduled for release from late next month to early September).

Sneak Peek at the HAVEN 65+

In the world of mechanical keyboards, innovation, and design enhancements are always on the horizon. The upcoming HAVEN 65+ is no exception, building on the foundations of the HAVEN 60 but with some exciting new upgrades.
    6daef1ea-be16-4a1a-ab5b-f38ed8cf655f-image.png

One of the key enhancements in the HAVEN 65+ is the design and expansion of the underflow lighting. The modifications allow the light to penetrate the desktop more effectively, thanks to a redesigned bottom weight. This change improves the aesthetics and enhances the overall user experience by providing a more immersive ambiance.

    2b69b650-e43e-4008-8268-be9ffe68bd6b-image.png

Additionally, the HAVEN 65+ gradually increases volume and a pattern texture at the nameplate and sandwiched keyboard weight. These intricate details add a touch of sophistication and depth to parts of the keyboard, showcasing a keen attention to detail in its design.

Stay tuned for more details as we approach the official Interest Check (IC) in mid-August for the HAVEN 65+. This is surely an update you won’t want to miss if you appreciate cutting-edge design and enhancements in your mechanical keyboards.

@khawar-ahmed The 2nd photo from the last makes my heart feel funny. That weight, oh god, my heart aches a little. So good.

I love it, when tech and art merges together harmoniously, and creates something truly beautiful.

  • [in-stock] Hello Word Modular Keyboard
    hmfaysalH hmfaysal

I have been in love with this keyboard since I first saw it in github. Designed by Peng Zhihui, this modular keyboard has a large e-ink display, a haptic rotary encoder, which changes haptics and resolution depending on the function. Also has a companion 0.91" oled screen to show which mode the brushless motor encoder is on.

This keyboard is being offered as a prebuilt option at iPopularShop at $499, considering the exchange rate, delivery and weight charge, we are looking at a cool 65k-70k BDT range. Regardless, this is one cool Human Machine Interface unit. Photos below:

I have been raving about this board for a while now probably months. Quite frankly, this looks even better in some aspects than the Matrix Corsa. My only gripe is that fixed 6.25U layout, 1.2 PCB which is usually a deal breaker for me, but this board is just a beauty. I hope they do an international GB.
Finally a decent video of the board is out by NNNNANSEN (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L7rRdXeP7Ns)
